Just-In-Time Tip
  • TEA staff recently did some clean-up to the TIA website. If a hyperlink is not working go to tiatexas.org and navigate from there.

  • While Covid 19 impact may be minimal on Cohorts D and beyond, TEA has provided COVID-19 updates here

  • Not prepared to bring forward all eligible groups of teachers in the current cohort for TIA? Later groups may be added through the process of system expansion. Depending on the type of enhancements being made in future cohorts it may require a new application or an amendment.

Action Items
Cohort D (and planning ahead for Cohort E)

Hot Topics / FAQs

Appraisal Waiver - An Appraisal Waiver will be reviewed and approved for LEAs who determine they are unable to conduct accurate and relevant appraisals due to the pandemic. Full details are on the TEA COVID-19 page at Appraisal Waiver

Role ID 087 Winter Class Roster  - The snapshot date is 2/26/2021 and the submission date is 3/25/2021. TEA TIA Team will use this data to: 1) verify designated teachers and those pending designation are employed as teachers (role ID 087); and 2) capture each designated teacher's CDCN to calculate district allotments. There has been conversation around atypical teachers (example: dyslexia and reading specialists, interventionists, and those serving multiple campuses like adaptive PE and GT). Before coding an atypical position 087 consider the following: 1) Is the primary job function providing regular instruction to students? Is instruction tied to TEKS standards or a specific program? 2) Must they have a valid teaching certificate to perform their duties? (exception on #2, some charter schools).

Amendments to TIA commissioner rules have been posted for proposal.  These rules will update provisions to address the lack of State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) testing in the 2019-2020 school year, ensure that the employing school district receives the allotment for a designated teacher, modify the percentage each district receives if a designated teacher is employed by multiple districts, add another reason designations may be voided, improve the quality of local designation systems by requiring calibration activities to be tied to the approved teacher observation rubric and requiring that the student growth and teacher observation data be from the same teaching assignment, and remove obsolete provisions.
