Just-In-Time Tip
The TIA Readiness Self-Assessment Guide was released by TEA in December and is a tool you may wish to use as you continue working on the design of your local designation system. The guide will help LEAs use full readiness language and serves as a formative self-check for districts while helping analyze all necessary steps to give LEAs the best possible outcome. This working document provides “full readiness” in lieu of “success criteria” and has space for local context, questions, and next steps. A webinar and the guide is located here
Action Items
Cohort D (and planning ahead for Cohort E)

Many of you have been working on the work since October, and we have arrived at the time when final decisions are needed so the application can be completed, reviewed, and polished prior to the April 15 submission deadline. Key action items this month are listed below:

  • Finalize student achievement measures and calculation methods

  • Finalize any optional components

  • Finalize overall calculation using T-TESS (cut-points to consider teachers for each designation)

  • Finalize compensation plan

  • Finalize comprehensive budget

  • Regroup with all teachers to notify them of the finalized designations

  • TIA stakeholder update, if appropriate

Resources

TEA TIA Webinars

  • A pre-recorded 3-minute guide to TIA has been posted in the About TIA tab.

  • Check out the most recent TEA TIA webinars. Student Learning Objectives (SLOs) was recently added, along with National Board Fee Reimbursement, Data Validation and Performance Standards and How to Use the Readiness Checklist, and the self-assessment guide.  Note: Most webinars now have a slide deck posted.

  • National Board Fee Reimbursement application is available at this time.

Hot Topics / FAQs

What tips can you provide on completing an application that will be approved?

First and foremost, take the necessary time to engage in the Readiness Checklists and the recently released TIA Readiness Self-Assessment Guide (both located at TIAtexas.org). Assign sections of the application to appropriate staff members and set dates to meet and review answers. Consider meeting twice a month for 2 hours each. Use the scoring rubric and assign a team member to push on whether or not every component and detail of the question has been answered.

Upcoming Dates

TEA Cohort Convenings (details will be sent when finalized):

  • February 2nd-4th – Cohort D building your local designation system. Register here

  • February 24th – Cohort C mid-year check-in

  • March 3rd – Cohort A and B check-in, interpreting TTU data report, and preparing for annual program submission

  • June 28th – Cohort A-C designation determination

For Cohorts A, B, C...

Create models using prior year data - TEA will provide a recorded webinar on how to run data models using prior year data for both teacher observation/student growth. This will be an opportunity to run correlations, check for skew, etc. Stay tuned (late January/early February)!
