CONTEXT:

1)  UCSB Spring Sustainability Poster Show

May 15th, 2026, 1:00pm-3:00pm, SRB Multi-Purpose Room (MPR)

RSVP: https://forms.gle/5nSyHZmTALoXzfnA7

Interested in getting involved in sustainability at UCSB? Join us at the Spring Sustainability Poster Show, taking place on May 15, 2026 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the SRB Multi-Purpose Room, hosted by the Sustainability Internships and Community Resources (SICR) Department and The Green Initiative Fund!

SICR, which offers 60-80 internship positions each year, is hosting a mixer-style showcase to celebrate the relaunch of the department and feature projects that student interns conducted during the 2025-2026 academic year. Attendees will have the opportunity to see how fellow students collaborated with campus departments and local organizations to turn ideas into action. Also in attendance will be several campus programs who offer internships throughout the year.

This event is designed not only to showcase internships, but also to broaden awareness of the many pathways for involvement. Students can learn about volunteer opportunities, internships, ways to integrate real life projects into projects you tackle in your courses, and other collaborative initiatives across campus. If you have your own sustainability idea, SICR would be more than happy to discuss potential partnerships and ways to bring your project to life.

Student efforts are already being documented on the Student Engagement Portal, which you can view here. Whether you are actively seeking an internship or simply curious about how to contribute to sustainability efforts at UCSB, the Spring Sustainability Poster Show offers a space to ask questions, build connections, and gain inspiration from your peers.

2)  REMINDER:  The Bren Environmental Justice Club invites you to attend the 8th Annual Environmental Justice Symposium: Power, Place, & Possibilities in Environmental Justice.

Friday May 15, 2026. 12:00 to 4:30pm, Bren Hall 1414, UCSB.

Registration: Free! Please register via the form → EJ Symposium registration form

The event will be followed by a reception.

Since 2019, the Bren EJ Symposium has been a graduate-student-led event that brings together students, faculty, activists, and local organizations involved in environmental justice. This year's theme is Power, Place, & Possibilities in Environmental Justice. The event will deconstruct and (re)imagine systems of power, focusing on global forces, domestic challenges, and the future of environmental justice in a critical moment.

These are heavy times. Finding and holding onto community and purpose can feel impossible when there's so much to face. Showing up for each other, the work, and the future takes real effort, but gatherings like this stand as a reminder of what is possible when we create space to learn from one another and refuse to face these challenges alone.

We will host three student-moderated panels:

The Power panel examines the intersection of power structures that shape environmental inequities through the lens of resource extraction.

Panelists: Julie Maldonado & Mona Damluji

The Place panel will explore the relationship between communities, land, and water in Central California.

Panelists: MariaElena Lopez & Nayamin Martinez

The Possibilities panel will (re)imagine the future of environmental justice, education, activism, and the interconnections between them.

Panelists: Timnit Kelefa & Kimiko Russell-Halterman

Barter4better is hosting its 2nd event where students can come together to trade their items and skills and build community. Come with anything you have to offer whether that be clothes, food, knickknacks, skills (music lessons, tutoring etc.), and leave with something "better". Join Barter4better and help create a circular economy in Isla Vista!

Panelists include:
