2)  UCSB Environmental Affairs Board Events and Call for Officer Applications for 2026-27!

The Environmental Affairs Board (EAB) is a student environmental group at UCSB. We provide students with opportunities to positively impact their surroundings through community service, political action, and leadership training. By extending the environmental movement to individuals from all walks of life, EAB has created a tight-knit community dedicated to changing the way we interact with the world. Our meetings are every Wednesday at 7 PM in the MultiCultural Center on campus. To find out more about EAB, please visit our Instagram at www.instagram.com/ucsbeab.

Consider applying to be an officer on the Environmental Affairs Board for this upcoming 2026-2027 academic year! EAB works to organize community events such as the I.V. Earth Day festival, Plastic-Free Fair, and volunteering opportunities like block clean-ups and local gardening events. Additionally, EAB runs local advocacy campaigns working on environmental issues such as the Stop Sable campaign. EAB welcomes all UCSB undergraduate students to apply and bring your new ideas!

4)  Santa Barbara’s Channelkeeper MPA Watch volunteer workshop - Help Monitor Local Marine Protected Areas. Virtual Training workshop this Wednesday, April 15th, 5:30 – 6:30 pm

Attend a virtual training workshop to learn about and help monitor our Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) as part of Channelkeeper's MPA Watch Program.

Santa Barbara Channelkeeper is looking for volunteers to help us record and track human activities in and adjacent to Santa Barbara's Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) through our MPA Watch program at Campus Point (IV/Ellwood), Naples, and Gaviota State Beach. MPA Watch volunteers walk along the beach at designated transects to observe and collect unbiased data on coastal and marine resource use, which provides important information to understand how people are using the marine protected areas (MPAs) and to help inform MPA management.

Becoming an MPA Watch volunteer is easy, fun, and a great opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience with data collection protocols. MPA Watch surveys are conducted independently and take about 20 minutes per survey. We ask volunteers to commit to conducting at least 3 surveys per month. Join Channelkeeper for the upcoming virtual training workshop. This workshop will be followed by a one-hour outdoor field training session held at Campus Point Beach on a future date.

Please register for the virtual workshop at this link.

5)  UCSB ELI PROJECT needs your help!  We are looking for student volunteers for our “Neighborhood Naturalists” project!

With Neighborhood Naturalists, we want to encourage curiosity, discovery, and teamwork, alongside a sense of place, so that the kids know that they can access nature in their school’s neighborhood.

We are taking fourth-grade classes on a 1.5-hour walk around the nearby elementary schools in the Goleta Union School District to allow the fresh air and change of scenery to help reset the kids’ brains. We are dividing the classes into small groups and rotating through four to five activities facilitated by volunteers.

We are looking for student volunteers to help lead these trips throughout April and May. Please fill out the following form if you are interested, and we will reach out to you in the very near future. Thanks!
