6)  PAID Data Intern positions open with UCSB's National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS)

Join our team of student interns! The National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS; www.nceas.ucsb.edu), a global leader in ecological research, is currently hiring graduate and undergraduate student interns for part-time work this academic year. Have fun learning new data management tools as you document and archive important ecological, physical, and social data from research projects focused on environmental issues (e.g.: climate, fisheries, wildlife, geochemistry, etc.) in Alaska and the Arctic. Work for these projects includes collaborative data management, data quality assurance, metadata creation, data transformation and formatting, and data entry to facilitate open, reproducible science.

These positions involve communication with scientists from around the world for the purposes of data acquisition, formatting, and metadata creation to contribute to the NSF

Arctic Data Center data catalog. Access to databases and database tools involves a close working relationship with NCEAS' software engineers and scientific programmers. Additionally, interns may test and provide feedback on new infrastructure.

Requirements:

- Strong written and oral communication skills

- Experience or interest in data management and/or analysis

- Careful attention to detail

- Ability to learn new tools quickly

- Ability to work well both independently and as a team member

Desirable qualifications:

- Experience using R or Python

- Background or interest in ecology or environmental science

- Familiarity with metadata, geospatial data

- Experience with data table operations, formatting, and metadata creation

We’re looking for undergraduate and graduate students to help us complete this work on-site or remotely. Please be willing to dedicate 10-15 hours per week and be able to work until the

end of the school year. NCEAS is a UCSB research center. Full time students working in other UCSB departments more than 5 hours per week must secure written permission from their academic advisor to be eligible.

Internships are paid $16/hr (undergrads) or $18/hr (grads). We strongly encourage members of underrepresented groups to apply.

To apply, please attach a cover letter stating your interest in being a part of our team, along with a resume or CV, in an email to datainterns...@nceas.ucsb.edu. We will be

reviewing applications on a rolling basis. We will not be able to reply to every application, but will begin sending out interview requests by a week after the deadline. Please apply by January 22, 2026 to be considered in our first round of application review

7)  Application for Farmlink's Paid Food Systems Summer Fellowship

The Farmlink Project, a national nonprofit connecting the billions of lbs of food that would otherwise go to waste on farms to communities in need. We host the FIELD fellowship to empower young people to work at the front lines of the food system and design solutions to sustainably feed everyone. It includes a paid 10 week immersive internship with an industry partner, working hands-on to deeply understand problems and design solutions. I would love to share the opportunity with students in your network.

FIELD is a dynamic nine-month work-study fellowship open to a select group of students who are motivated to making a difference in the food system. The goal of

Farmlink’s fellowship is to introduce leaders, new ideas, and build a community of changemakers year after year. We are building a cohort of dedicated students who are

bought into building community, action oriented, and willing to make the most out of the program.

Immersion is at the heart of FIELD. Fellows spend their summers at the frontline of the food system, to learn by doing then design and implement impactful solutions tied to

Farmlink’s mission of feeding people with the food we already grow. The program culminates in a summit attended by a network of Farmlink Project alums, donors, investors, partners, and research collaborators excited to see these projects & these fellows continue to drive meaningful change.

The impact of FIELD is three fold: the projects developed during the program, scaling of promising projects, and ultimately what you go on to do as a food system leader.

Eligibility:  Our program is designed for undergraduate students, however, people who have are pursuing a graduate degree are welcome to apply. This program is not open to high school students. If you have questions about your eligibility, please reach out.

Stipend:  To accommodate the full-time, in-person demands of the summer, The Farmlink Project provides a $6,000 living stipend and covers travel and relocation expenses for those moving to a new destination for Phase 2. During Phase 3, we offer a needs-based stipend. We understand that project development work may take time away from other paid opportunities, and we aim to ensure participants can fully commit to the program without financial stress.

See attached PDF for more info or to apply click here!
For additional questions please reach out to our program director, stell...@farmlinkproject.org

I'm reaching out to let you know about an exciting opportunity that might be a fit for some of your students or recent graduates. Cal Poly Humboldt, on California's beautiful north coast, is accepting applications for our MS degree in Energy Technology & Policy. Students in the program, many of whom work at the Schatz Energy Research Center, learn to combine technical expertise with an interdisciplinary understanding of the economic, social, and environmental dimensions that shape decisions in energy systems and climate change.

Recent examples of student work have included concrete contributions to:

- Climate-resilient microgrids for tribal communities

- Design and impacts of offshore wind development

- The nexus of forest management, wildfire, climate, and energy systems

- Expanding energy access in off-grid areas of emerging economies

and much, much more!
