Many environmental field studies programs are launchng their last push to fill summer and fall 2026 programs.  These are great opportunities to get out of the classroom and gain field and research experience in amazing and often exotic locations.  Check out the Environmental Studies Fields Studies webpage for a list of the more popular programs with UCSB and ES students and then visit their websites. Below is an announcement from one of the more popular programs, Wildlands Studies.

If you have questions about these programs and how they can apply towards your major requirements, contact an ES Academic Advisor!

Final Spaces Remaining: Study in the Field

This Summer or Join Us in Thailand This Fall!

APPLY NOW

Our two-week U.S. programs in Yellowstone and Alaska are nearly full, with just a few final spaces remaining. These short-term programs offer a chance to earn upper-division credit and gain hands-on field experience all without going far from home.

Want to spend your summer abroad? Our six-week Australia program also has limited space remaining. Study tropical reefs and rainforests in North Queensland while living and learning in one of the most ecologically diverse regions in the world.

Looking ahead to fall, we’re excited to launch our new Thailand Elephant program, exploring conservation through ecology, culture, and human–elephant relationships. Watch a short video from our lead instructor here.

Enrollment is open through Spring 2027, but summer and fall programs are filling quickly—now is the time to apply.
