I am reaching out on behalf of the UCSB Benioff Lab, as we are putting on a fully-funded Catalina Island Field Trip.

The application is open to all UCSB students, however priority will be given to undergraduates interested in environmental science/ecology. Transfer students are especially encouraged to apply!

The field trip will take place, Friday, March 27th - Sunday, March 29th.

Students will engage in outdoor activities on Catalina Island and get connected to experienced faculty and graduate student mentors. Participants will gain direct exposure to core ecological principles that can be uniquely taught at Catalina Island, such as island biogeography, the evolution of island ecosystems, and the natural history of island ecosystems. Additionally, students will be introduced to applied field research techniques, which will expand their ecological research skill set and provide them with training in transferable skills that may enhance their competitiveness for careers in ecology.

The deadline to apply is Feb 12th, 2026 11:59 PST.
