1) HELPFUL CLASS SCHEDULING
TOOL: The ES
2025-26 Proposed Schedule of Courses can help you prepare
and select your
ES courses for the 2024-25 academic year!
This is a helpful tool for preparing one’s short-term Fall as well
as
longer-term 2024-25 class schedule!
Just
beware, although this list of courses is the most up-to-date for
the coming
year – it is not set in stone and schedule changes may still occur
prior to the
start of each quarter.
See attached .pdf or download it from the ES
Courses webpage.

2) Fall 2025 Class
Schedule note: ECON 9, a
popular option to fulfill the lower-div
economics requirement, is only being offered in Fall quarter
during the 2025-25
academic year.
ES students may take ECON 1, 2, 9 or Environmental Studies 30 to satisfy the lower-div Preparation for the Major economics requirement. Historically, ECON 9 (general intro to economics for non-econ majors) is offered multiple quarters a year, plus summer sessions. However, the Economics department has informed me that for the 2025-26 academic year it’s currently scheduled to only be offered in Fall quarter. If you are planning to take this course please adjust your class schedule accordingly.
IMPORTANT
NOTES:
- ECON 9 is scheduled for Summer Session 2025 and will likely be
offered again
in Summer 2026.
- ENVS 30 (Intro to Environmental Economics) is also only offered
once a year
and is also scheduled for Fall 2025.
- ECON 1 and 2 are offered twice a year, but ECON 1 is a
prerequisite for ECON
2
- Completion of Micro or Macro Economics at another college will
be an acceptable
substitution (may require a ES
Major Degree Petition)
- Satisfactory completion of AP Micro or AP Macro Economics with a
score of 3
or higher will automatically be accepted as a substitute for the
ES economics
requirement (this is a special agreement with the College and
Registrar)
If you have any questions about the economic requirement for the ES or HYDRO major please contact the ES Advising team.

3) YOU ARE INVITED! The
UCSB Environmental
Leadership Incubator (ELI) is
pleased to
invite you to celebrate the 2024-2025 cohort of students at their
Capstone
Presentation event!
- May 30 from 12-2:30 pm in Bren 4016 (top floor, 4L)
The annual Environmental Leadership Incubator (ELI) Capstone event will be held on Friday, May 30 from 12-2:30 pm in Bren 4016 (top floor, 4L). Our Capstone event is an opportunity for our ELI students to share their environmental leadership projects and year-long leadership development experiences. It is also a chance to celebrate their hard work, perseverance, and leadership successes. This is a fun event to learn about these change-making leadership projects and celebrate growth in our student environmental leaders!
This event will consist of three sessions, highlighting six or seven 5-minute talks in each session. There are nineteen projects in total, with fascinating and diverse topics, each focusing on influencing pro-environmental behaviors. Each session will have a 10-minute Q&A for all session presenters. We hope you will join us in congratulating the 2025 ELI cohort on their completion of the ELI program.
Light refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome. See attached flyer and Capstone schedule or visit the ELI webpage.
