Wildlands Studies offers international environmental field programs where students gain hands-on field experience while earning upper-division academic credit. Students study topics such as ecology, conservation biology, climate change, environmental policy, geology, and human–environment relationships, all while working alongside PhD scientists and professional researchers in the field.

Programs take place in Australia, Belize, Chile, Ecuador, French Polynesia, Iceland, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Thailand, Alaska, and Yellowstone, and bring together students from universities across North America. Participants can earn up to 15 upper-division credits through Western Washington University, and scholarships may apply.

Experiential education aims to take academic subject matter out of the realm of abstraction and ground it in a tangible and relevant context. A well-rounded college education provides students with the opportunity to apply what they are learning through direct experience of their subject matter. WRFI offers exceptional opportunities to immerse students in a variety of curricula. On WRFI courses students experience their education; they are not passive recipients of information. The result is improved cognition, focus, and satisfaction with their college experience.

Interdisciplinary Focus, Adventure Based, Guest Speakers & Site Visits, and Native American Studies. Learn more about our dozen different courses and programs here!

If you can’t make the learn at lunch session on Friday, contact Ash Sward a...@wrfi.net.
