Your Children’s Trees at UCSB is a campus organization conducting native species restoration and planting projects throughout the community.

 

We are dedicated to educating the public about the benefits of urban forests and the importance of planting native trees in our communities. We are also part of a broader community non-profit, Your Children’s Trees, which provides urban forestry educational and technical support to the Santa Barbara County area.

 

Our events for this week are as follows:

6)  SBCAG Internship Opportunity  - Transportation Planning (GIS) Intern.

 

SBCAG is a regional planning agency that takes on big challenges, aiming to find solutions for sustainable transportation, housing, and an equitable quality of life across Santa Barbara County. With a staff of 20 and an annual budget of about $100 million, SBCAG provides planning, project management, grant administration, alternative transportation commuter services, and distributes local, state, and federal transportation funds to advance regional transportation projects for the benefit of all residents of Santa Barbara County.

SBCAG is accepting applications for a paid internship position within the Division of Planning that provides unique work experience for recent graduates and students. The successful candidate reports to the Principal Transportation Planner and starts approximately April 2026. The intern is expected to work at least 15 hours per week. 

The intern will mainly play a pivotal role in supporting the implementation of the agency’s Geographic Information System (GIS) Governance by performing various technical and analytical tasks, aiding in the research and document preparation, and assisting with data requests related to urban and regional planning projects. Some of the example tasks include updating a regionally significant map in ArcGIS Pro, modifying a StoryMap within an ArcGIS Online environment, or developing metadata for the publicly available geospatial datasets.

7)  UCSB The Research Experience & Education Facility (REEF) Aquarist Recruitment Notice The Marine Science Institute (MSI) at UCSB is seeking People with a passion for the Pacific!

For the past 20 years, The REEF, UCSB’s teaching aquarium located at Campus Point Beach, has provided Our Maritime Community, from K12 and undergraduate and graduate courses to the general public, an “Ocean View of the World!”

 

Current Staff Positions:

REEF Aquarist: Assist REEF Director and Lead Aquarist, with limited supervision, to support programs and

facility operations (education and husbandry) for MSI Education and Outreach Programs/REEF. Ensure that

organisms in The REEF are cared for and maintained under UCSB, state, and federal guidelines.

● Requirements:

○ Knowledge of and/or experience working with marine organisms, specifically sharks.

○ Knowledge of and/or experience working with temperate, and tropical, marine aquaria

○ Ability to work with groups in an educational manner and setting

○ Passion for the ocean and caring for animals

○ Must be highly motivated, detail-oriented, and reliable

○ Highly engaging verbal communication skills

○ Working knowledge of Excel, Word, and maintaining databases is a PLUS

 

This is a part-time, undergraduate paid position. Working hours are Monday-Saturday. Starting salary is $20/hr.

9)  Interdisciplinary Marketing Internship w/Demo 2 Design - architectural reUse

- for Spring Quarter 2026

 

Offering Spring Quarter 2026 Hybrid/Mix Option (hands-on & remote)

 

Demo 2 Design is a resource management business that promotes the behavior shift from

disposal to reUse by assessing, reclaiming, and marketing high-quality vintage architectural materials that add character to building projects. We research materials and markets; then connect doors, windows, flooring, lumber, plumbing & lighting fixtures from construction sites with end-users for reUse in designing new construction.

 

Students experience hands-on and online interaction. At the warehouse, they develop capability in photography, hand-tool techniques, spatial organization & display. Working remotely, they research materials; design graphics; digitize inventory & upload to platforms for market expansion; enhance website; and apply Google drive expertise to expanding the Sustainable Building class curricula.

 

Desirable skills include: social media, graphic design: Canva/PhotoShop, website design, Google/IT, photography, effective writing, spatial organization, industriousness, and environmental stewardship.

 

Responsibilities may include…

 Research items for pricing and industry-standard descriptions; update digital inventory

 Update D2D contacts in Google Sheets; design flyer graphics & format for mass emails

 Use spatial management to organize materials & set up photo shoots in warehouse

 Photograph materials to post online on social media & industry-specific platforms

 Update/organize video & website spreadsheets to facilitate access for class curricula

 Create Google Slide presentations for SBCC reUse classes & public venues

 Coordinate packing & shipping of materials

 Design digital forms for inventory assessment, contracts, and end-user wish lists

 

Time commitment

* Internship requires 60 hours for 2-unit certification; or 120 hours for 4 units

10)  New $40,000 Grant Makes UC Davis Summer Abroad Water Engineering Program More Accessible

 

We are pleased to share an exciting Summer Abroad opportunity you may wish to recommend to eligible students in Civil & Environmental Engineering and related fields. This program is well suited for students interested in water resources, environmental sustainability, and global engineering practice.

 

A $40,000 grant is now available for all students who enroll in the UC Davis Summer Abroad Building Sustainable Water Treatment Systems program in Querétaro, Mexico. Students who enroll will receive $2,813 to cover their Accommodations and Services Abroad Fee. No additional application is required!
