Blevin Blectum (Bevin Kelley) creates electronic sound-sci-fi fantasy in decadent A/V technicolor forms. She performs solo and is one half of the classic early-2000s San Francisco duo Blectum From Blechdom with Kristin Erickson. Her work blends playful, futuristic electronics with dreamlike textures, shifting from whispers, bird calls, and metallic sounds into vivid rhythmic sequences. In performance, she expands this world through live reinterpretations, extended variations, and new unreleased material. 9)  Santa Barbara Literary Festival presents Waste, Truth & the Planet,  a timely, incisive conversation between Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Edward Humes, author of Total Garbage: How We Can Fix Our Waste and Heal Our World, and Kathi King from the CEC.

- Sunday, May 3rd, 4:40-5:30 at the CEC’s Environmental Hub, Downtown SB

Director of Outreach and Education at the Community Environmental Council here in Santa Barbara.

Drawing on years of investigative reporting, Humes pulls back the curtain on the hidden systems that govern what we throw away, and the staggering environmental, economic, and ethical consequences of a culture built on waste. Together with Kathi King, he will explore the critical role journalism and community education play in driving meaningful change, and offer practical, actionable steps that individuals, communities, and institutions can take right now.

We believe this conversation sits squarely at the intersection of research, policy, and public communication that defines the UCSB Environmental Studies Program's mission and we would be honored to have you and your students in the room.
