1)  Consider enrolling in WRIT105S, "Writing About Sustainability," this Fall

Are you looking to learn more about the expansive world of sustainability? Do you want to take part in the important conversations that will define our environmental, economic, and social futures? Then consider enrolling in WRIT105S, "Writing About Sustainability," this Fall Quarter! In this course, you will read and write about sustainability from multiple angles, including academic, activist, and professional contexts. The schedule will include guest speakers, a field trip to the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History, and lots of valuable conversations about how we can address some of the most important issues facing society today. You'll get a chance to write in various modes and genres, and also will work with other students to propose a local action plan related to sustainability. A great course for all, but especially if you're thinking about working with environmental issues in your career. This course fulfills the Area A2 writing requirement.

Please feel free to contact Baron Haber (baron...@ucsb.edu) with any questions. There are limited spots left, so reach out soon if you're hoping to enroll!

2)  UCSB’s Edible Campus Program encourages you to Support Local Agriculture Through Garden Club

Join the Isla Vista Garden Clubs at St. Michael's and Methodist Community Gardens to put sustainability into action. You'll be supporting local food access, reducing food miles, and practicing climate-friendly agriculture.

While anyone is welcome to harvest fresh produce for free from the blue painted shared beds at St. Michael's and Methodist Community Gardens, Garden Club members play a bigger role -- helping decide what gets planted, caring for the crops, and often getting the first pick of ripe produce.

No prior gardening experience or tools needed. Just bring yourself!

St. Michael's Garden Club - Mondays at 5 PM (6586 Picasso Rd)

Methodist Garden Club - Wednesdays at 5 PM (892 Camino Del Sur - Corner of Sueno and Camino Del Sur)
