City of Santa Barbara Job Opening

We just opened a new hourly position with the City of Santa Barbara’s Sustainability & Resilience Department. We would love to have a student from your program on our team. Is this something we can advertise in your ESMail Listserv? The Environmental Programs Assistant position is  posted on: https://www.governmentjobs.com/careers/santabarbara/jobs/5002108/environmental-programs-assistant.  This position will provide support for our waste reduction programs and community clean-up events. Shifts are flexible, with an average of 20 hours per week. Let me know if you have any questions or need any other information.

Join us this weekend for two exciting events!

Hello volunteers, creek lovers, and SBUCC supporters!  In case you haven't heard, this weekend (7/12) brings an exciting opportunity to care for and learn about your local watersheds.

If you want to get hands-on with taking care of a creek in good company, join us Saturday morning to remove invasive plants from the Mission Creek Lagoon!

If you want to learn more about watersheds with family-friendly demos and maps, and maybe get yourself a watershed map bandana or T-shirt while you're at it, stop by our booth at the Dolphin Derby Festival this Sunday!

And of course, if you want to go all out and show your love for the creeks all weekend, do all the above!  More details on both events below.

Saturday July 12- Invasive Plant Removal at Mission Lagoon

Lend a hand in the stewardship of the Mission Lagoon restoration area! Last month, we began weeding out invasive sweetclover (Melilotus sp.) to make room for native plants.  We made great progress, filling a whole trailer with sweetclover between 10 volunteers. We will be returning to the site this Saturday to continue our progress on other sweetclover patches and maintain the areas we already worked on, and we invite you to join!

Please sign up here or contact us at in...@sburbancreeks.org to RSVP or ask any questions you have. Please bring your own garden gloves, although we will have a limited number of pairs for those who don't have them. All participants must sign a waiver, or have a parent sign a waiver if under 18. Make sure to bring water, sunscreen, and suitable attire, including closed toed shoes.  If you need your volunteer hours certified on a form for school or work, bring that as well.

Mission Creek Lagoon is SBUCC's Adopt-a-Beach site, as part of a Coastal Commission program (administered in SB by the City Creeks Division) to steward California's beaches.  Learn more about Adopt-a-Beach here.
