ES ADVISING HOURS FOR THE HOLIDAYS:

WE ARE OPEN now through December 23rd and then closed till Monday, January 5th, the first day of Winter instruction.

·      Email questions to advi...@es.ucsb.edu and we will do our best to respond as soon as possible (normally 1-2 business days).

·      Or, you can schedule a remote Zoom appointment with an advisor using the Schedule Appointment link on the ES Advising webpage. Appointments are generally available M-F 9:00-11:45 am and 3:00-4:00 pm. and all-day Friday.

·      There will be no Drop-in Advising for in-person meetings from now till January 5th.

NOTE:  The ES main office is closed, butt the rest of the ES staff are working remotely through the 23rd of December.  They can be reached by personal email or general email sent to Environmental Studies Staff <ES-S...@es.ucsb.edu>.

1)  Winter Course on Environmental Careers: ENVS 190: Exploring Environmental Careers and Pathways

Course Description:  Wondering how to turn your passion for the planet into a meaningful career? This course helps you explore the wide range of professional paths in the environmental field and chart your own course. Through guest speakers, hands-on activities, and real-world case studies, you’ll discover how people across sectors are addressing today’s most pressing environmental challenges—and where your skills and values can make a difference.

You’ll identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and develop practical career tools, including networking strategies, informational interviewing techniques, and resume-building tips. Learn directly from UCSB experts, alumni, and environmental professionals who are shaping the future of sustainability.

Environmental careers discussed in Winter 2026 may include environmental law, consulting and planning, environmental writing and communication, and regenerative economics. By the end of the course, you’ll have expanded your network, honed your professional toolkit, and gained a clearer sense of your place in the global movement for a more sustainable future.

This class is ideal for students from any major who are interested in exploring environmental career options after graduation. Offered by the Greti U. Croft Center for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (CUEL) in collaboration with the UCSB Environmental Studies Program.

Time and Location: Fridays 11-12:15, ILP 1302

Professor:  Dr. Erika Zollett

Credit and Grading:  1 credit; Pass/No Pass

4)  Volunteers for our School Gardens Program with Explore Ecology!

We are looking for UCSB students to volunteer in our School Gardens Program to help our Garden Educators once a week for a 2hr window of time. We ask that you commit to coming for an entire quarter. We currently have openings for the Winter and Spring quarters. You could be helping with garden maintenance, helping prep for a lesson, or assisting during a lesson with student activities. You do not need to have gardening experience, but it would be a plus! We are looking for volunteers that have had some experience working with kids.

Come experience what it’s like to get kids more excited about the natural world and growing food! In the garden classroom, students learn about seed saving, planting, composting, nutrition, harvesting, and cooking. If you are interested, please fill out our application form by scanning the QR code on the attached flier. If you have any questions, please reach out to me at gene...@exploreecology.org.
