2)  UCSB CUEL Career Event: Change-Making Storytelling Through Social Media Campaigns
- Friday, November 14, 2025 from 2- 4 pm in Bren 4016

Want to be a social media rockstar who makes a positive impact on our planet?

Join us for a two-hour workshop on crafting engaging content for social media campaigns that drive positive change.  This event is brought to you by the Greti U. Croft Center for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (CUEL)

We’ll start by exploring the lens through which we approach social media storytelling: Are we truth-seekers, revealing reality with honesty? Or truth-stretchers, shaping narratives for emotional or persuasive effect?

Put these ideas into practice through a hands-on session, developing templates for real-world campaigns with real impact.  Visit our website for more information in Evan Pondel.  Snacks will be provided!  See attached flier!

3)  BREN PROFESSIONAL SEMINAR – “Data By the People, For the People: Building Community-Centered Environmental Research in an Era of Scientific Uncertainty” by Brittany Janis, Executive Director, Open Environmental Data Project
- Monday, November 17, 2025 | 11:00-12:00, Bren Hall 1414

Environmental data are key to addressing environmental problems, but data production and access is inequitably distributed across society. As the Executive Director of the Open Environmental Data Project, Brittany Janis leads an organization that is working to solve the combined technical and social obstacles facing communities threatened by environmental change.

This seminar explores the full lifecycle of community-centered environmental research: how to build authentic partnerships with communities, design studies that generate actionable insights, and navigate the science-to-policy interface responsibly. Drawing from the Open Environmental Data Project's work, we'll examine what makes research truly impactful versus extractive, and why the answers to "who collects the data," "who owns it," and "who interprets it" matter as much as the data itself.

- Tuesday, Nov 18th, 6–7 PM, Bren Hall 1414

We’ll wrap up by making mock podcasts together!

5)  UCSB Discussion event on EPA water regulations with Campus Sustainability’s Take Back the Tap initiative.
- 11/18/25 from 8-9pm @SRB, 1st Floor Conference Room

Take Back the Tap is a campus program dedicated to creating awareness about water quality standards and reducing single-use plastic water bottle consumption. Our mission is to emphasize the importance of water as a human right and build trust in state and national water safety regulations.

We are organising a discussion session on the recent changes to the EPA water guidelines on Tuesday, October 18 from 8-9 p.m. at the First Floor Conference Room in the SRB. 2025 has been a year for change at the EPA, with various regulations and standards being revised or replaced and the change in the water regulations standards being one of them. As an organization dedicated to water rights that emphasizes the safety of Goleta Tap water to discourage the consumption of single use plastic water bottles, we consider it essential to discuss the implications of these regulations on water security, the rights of our community, and the future of water safety regulations. The event will entail a discussion on the importance of federal oversight of basic needs, the public health implications of replacing strict standards with a non enforceable Hazard Index, topics that are particularly relevant to Environmental Science students.
