WINTER 2026 (not
Spring): Theme is
“Exploring
Environmental Careers and Pathways”

taught is Fall 2026. And remember, ENVS 190 can be taken up to

Wondering how to turn your passion for the planet into a
meaningful career?
This course helps you explore the wide range of professional paths
in the
environmental field and chart your own course. Through guest
speakers, hands-on
activities, and real-world case studies, you’ll discover how
people across
sectors are addressing today’s most pressing environmental
challenges—and where
your skills and values can make a difference.
You’ll identify your strengths, clarify your goals, and develop practical career tools, including networking strategies, informational interviewing techniques, and resume-building tips. Learn directly from UCSB experts, alumni, and environmental professionals who are shaping the future of sustainability.
Environmental careers discussed in Winter 2026 may include environmental law, consulting and planning, environmental writing and communication, and regenerative economics. By the end of the course, you’ll have expanded your network, honed your professional toolkit, and gained a clearer sense of your place in the global movement for a more sustainable future.
This class is ideal for students from any major who are interested in exploring environmental career options after graduation. Offered by the Greti U. Croft Center for Undergraduate Environmental Leadership (CUEL) in collaboration with the UCSB Environmental Studies Program.
Time
and Location: Fridays 11-12:15, ILP 1302
Professor: Dr. Erika Zollett
Credit and Grading: 1 credit; Pass/No Pass

being offered in Winter. This is a great option to fulfill the ES
“Ethics and
Justice” requirement as other options are not offered regularly
(i.e.
BLST 4, FEMST 50 or LING 50)
Unfortunately, some of the other options for the “Ethics and Justice” requirement have not been offered for a number of quarters, and some are not scheduled to be offered at all in 2025-26. One of these is BLST 4, which has not been offered for going on two years. Please check your class schedules carefully and don’t pass up the opportunity to complete this requirement if ENV 70 or PHIL 4 or POL SCI 1 fit your schedule.

We have some open seats to share in one of our
upper
division courses - please pass word along to your students!
Global Studies 178: Global Politics of Climate Change, Thursdays, 2-4:50 pm
Course description: How do societies understand and transform their environments? How do we evaluate whether societies are sustainable? What will it take for us to achieve sustainable development? This course approaches these questions during a difficult time—the Anthropocene—an era in which human activities are reshaping the global physical-environmental basis of human civilization and the survival of thousands of non-human species.
Students can contact global-...@ucsb.edu
