Work with Environment California and the Fund for the Public Interest to Save the Bees! Learn more and apply here!

Bees are our best pollinators and are essential to ecosystems and agriculture, yet the misuse of pesticides are putting them at risk. Companies are now coating seeds with bee-killing neonic pesticides which grow inside the plant and contaminate the soil. Just one neonic seed is enough to kill 80,000 bees! So Environment California is calling on Governor Newsom to support a ban on these seeds coated in bee-killing pesticides.
We're hiring for paid campaign positions in nearly 20 cities across the country this summer, including in Los Angeles, Oakland, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz! Apply now!

Staff will get the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in grassroots organizing, learn valuable communication skills and have the opportunity to participate in a variety of campaign actions including: running media events, petitioning, canvassing, fundraising, and writing letters to the editor, all while being full time paid members of our staff.

The Fund for the Public Interest is a national, non-profit organization that builds the people power for America’s leading environmental and social change organizations. You can learn more about us and our positions on our website here.

10)  The Fire Safe Council of Santa Barbara Country has a new position that has opened up that might be of interest to UCSB undergraduates.

The Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council (SBCFSC) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with a mission to promote wildfire safety in Santa Barbara County through education and action.

Members of the Board include current and past firefighting professionals and volunteers, representatives of local government, and citizen representatives from various local communities. Every other meeting includes a presentation from an expert on local issues such as fire ecology, vegetation management, infrastructure improvement, and emergency planning. The goals of the meetings are to provide relevant information to the local citizens and offer a platform for community members to become part of the solutions to the challenges fire poses to our wildland urban areas. We also work to bring funding to our community through grants and donations.

Recent grants have helped fund the ongoing Gaviota Coast CWPP, a local video on defensible space education, and the Buellton Walk into Wildfire exhibit. Currently, the SB FSC has secured funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation to help develop a novel Regional Wildfire Mitigation Program (RWMP) for Santa Barbara County’s south coast region. Implementing the RWMP is a large focus of the SBCFSC. Goals of the RWMP include informing individuals and communities about wildfire preparation through direct outreach efforts and indirect educational videos and educational material, in addition to creating tailored programs and resources to assist residents and communities with wildfire preparation activities, such as starting a community chipping program.

Position Overview: SBCFSC is starting a home hardening program to provide rebates to homeowners to update specific features of their home to be more fire resistant. Direct assistance will be provided to elderly and disabled residents. The SBCFSC seeks a hard-working, self-motivation, and detail oriented individual to work with a Program Manager to assist with the coordination of the home hardening program.

Please see the attached Flyer for more detailed job info and how to apply!

Salary and Benefits: The position pays $20/hour (DOE). 5 sick days are provided and employees have the option to participate in a matching retirement plan.

All applications or questions should be emailed to: sbfiresa...@gmail.com. Please include your name and “Program Assistant" in the subject line.
