2)  SPECIAL EVENT:  UCSB Shoreline Adaption Plan Meeting!  Your Coast, Your Voice!
- Thursday, December 34, 2025, 5:30 - 7:30 PM. MSI Auditorium, Room 1302, UCSB

Join us for a community conversation to share ideas, explore interactive maps, connect with coastal experts, and discuss how changing conditions shape UCSB’s coast while building a more resilient, sustainable future. The Campus Lagoon Shoreline (Area 3) and the Lagoon Road Corridor (Area 4) are highly sensitive zones where biological, cultural, and community values, resources, and infrastructure intersect. Planning in these areas calls for a system of managed coastal adaptation, including the protection of campus facilities and infrastructure, public shoreline access, habitat preservation, and cultural resource protection.

The UCSB Shoreline Project is funded by the State Coastal Conservancy to support implementation of the University's Sea Level Rise Adaptation Strategy. It launched in the Spring of 2025 and will continue through early 2027.

Learn more about UCSB’s Shoreline Adaptation Project here.

4)  SAVE THE DATE:  UCSB 2025 Webinar on “Near-term Strategies for Unlocking Industrial Electrification.”
- Tuesday, December 16th, 1pm - 2pm PT Zoom Webinar: Registration link

UCSB Professors Dr. Eric Masanet and Dr. Leah Stokes will be joined by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (RI) and Senator Martin Heinrich (NM) for a deep dive into one of the most immediate, practical opportunities to cut industrial climate pollution in the U.S. — electrifying low- and medium-temperature process heat used in manufacturing.

In this webinar, we’ll walk through emerging findings on the technologies that are ready to deploy today, including air-source heat pumps and electrode boilers, and how they can provide clean heat across the country. These solutions could reduce climate pollution by roughly 20–30% across major facilities in three of the most energy-intensive manufacturing sectors: chemicals, pulp & paper, and food & beverage. In several states — including New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington — these options can already be cost-competitive, and sectors like ethyl alcohol and pulp & paper can have attractive payback periods.

What we’ll cover:

- The scale of today’s electrification opportunities in the U.S. industry

- The state-by-state and sector-level economic potential of electrification technologies

- How policy can unlock broader adoption and deliver climate, health, and economic benefits

- Implications for federal and state policy design

We hope you’ll join us for this important conversation.

See the complete announcement here!

Requirements:

- Able to attend a weekly zoom meeting from 6 to ~ 9:30pm every Tuesday night during the fall, winter, and spring quarters (excluding finals week)

- Interested in issues surrounding coastal protection in the Santa Barbara area

- Highly organized and able to communicate effectively with other board members and grant applicants both via email and in person

- Comfortable working in a collaborative team environment

Board members will be eligible for a small quarterly honoraria.
