Anybody sell horse shoes for scrap iron? I've got 3 1/2 5-gallon buckets full. I'd assumed they wouldn't bring anything but someone said they're #1 steel and it's worth doing.

Angie,
We also have a ton a shoes.  What we did with some of them is give them to the trail club to paint and put up as trail markers!  You can turn the shoe in the direction you are to travel.  They work great and are very permanent.
One note, though; they painted them yellow and they did not show up at all, so we went back and painted them orange.

My farrier doesn't recycle them for money, he says there is not enough to make it worthwhile even with all he does.  He does throw them in my recycle pile but I just drop them off at the recycle box for him.

My farrier does this. Not sure how much he gets but he takes a load once a year. He's scheduled tonight I can ask him the process and price. I am in Washington state.

.10 cents a pound. If you are close to Dickson, Tn bring them to us. We just opened our own scrap yard, Acre Iron & Metal!

I gave a bucket to a friend who turned them into works of art. I've seen wreaths made out of them, bookends, wine racks.  The possibilities are endless.

Angie - if you don't scrape them put a notice up on Craigslist or Freecycle.
