I have a 3 horse Featherlite bumper-pull trailer and a Ford F-250. My
plug on the trailer pulled out and dragged on the ground one time, so a
friend replaced it for me. Well, he apparently really didn't know what
he was doing and I no longer had interior lights, but the brakes and
blinkers worked, so I called it "good enough". A few weeks ago, I lost
EVERYTHING - no brakes, no blinkers, no running lights! :( I tried to
get it into a shop to get it fixed, but kept getting put off. I NEED
this trailer this weekend! :( I went yesterday and bought a new plug and
all sorts of stuff to fix the plug myself. I took the old one apart and
every single wire had pulled away from the screws inside the plug. I
cleaned each with, put a new thingy on each one (the u-shaped metal
piece clipped to the wire). The Ford has a guide on the plug stating
what each prong is for. I do NOT have a guide for the trailer, and
apparently it is different than most! ARGH! In every diagram I find, it
says that the blue with is the brake. Well my trailer doesn't have a
blue wire... The yellow says auxiliary, but on the featherlite,
apparently the yellow is the brake, because that is the only one I can
get to work! Does anyone know what the colors of the Featherlite trailer
are???? THANK YOU!

Heidi,
Here's what i've done for old trailers I've bought in the past.
I get one of those emergency batteries. Do this so you
don't short out your truck. The Ford has fuses in a couple
of places one is inside the engine compartment and is for the brakes.

Get couple of 12 guage wires. Find the ground on your trailer.
Then one by one hook a wire to the broken wires. The diagram posted
will help. Blue usually is the brake but if someone has played with
it they could be funky.

As you find each light and brake, label it. Then, use the diagram to
hook to your truck.

Good luck,
Dolores
