I have the opportunity to add some portable cooling/heating to my horse trailer’s tack room/sleeping room, and I'm having a hard time getting real information.

There seem to be two kinds: glorified fans with water/ice cooling (called “air coolers” or sometimes evaporative or swamp coolers) and portable air conditioners.

I live in Texas in an area where it's normally about 80% humidity.

Please help!

"...” or sometimes evaporative or swamp coolers..."

swamp coolers work OK in the desert, in the rest of the world they are not useful.

My Sundowner, 2000 alum., 2 horse gooseneck with dressing room has windows that open on every side and the back plus, two vents where the horses ride. Yet, it gets super hot inside. Is there a way to set up a battery operated ( or electric ) fan for the horses? Ideas really appreciated., esp. ones I could do myself.
Much thanks in advance,
Cindy K

I wonder if you could add a Fantastic Fan.

Oh....over the Fantastic Fan you will need to add a cover, that way
you can use the fan when it's raining.

I have a 4 horse Featherllite slant. I use the last 2 stalls for horses the
1st 2 stalls for tack area. I have a battery operated fan attached to the
divider of the first horse. It blows across the backs of both horses or if
I haul 3 horses across all three horses backs. When I had a 2 horse slant I
used the fan in the same way only hooked the fan into a different spot.
suited for your trailer. I hauled in 98-100 degree weather last summer in
Co. and our 3 horses were not sweating even when were on the side of the
road with a flat tire (Thank you US Rider) I bought my fan from the truck
acc. aisle at Fleet Farm. The batteries lasted all summer. Takes D size
batteries.

In the LQ, and Dressing room of both trailers I used a battery fan that sat
on a ledge. I bought that in the Camping Dept.

I'd buy a Fantastic Fan from RVvent as opposed to Camping World because they know all the options, and yeah, the dome is a good idea if you're in the rain zone. Love mine, unlike conventional fans the better models suck out the hot air, have a rain sensor and a thermostat. The 6000 is on sale for $207 through Labor Day:

I'm going to replace the sunroof in my dressing room with one.

Hi Kerry,
I use to live in the foothills above Sacramento where it also can get
in the hundreds for a week or so... My suggestion is to add a Scoop
over the roof Hole so as you drive it captures the air and forces it
into the rig and it also provides cover in the rain.
you can put these "Scoops" on the sides and tops to increase air
circulation.
Air is the main reason I primarily use a stock type trailer.
It's going to be hard to beat the volume from "Air Induction" while
you're moving and I'm sure the fans will help when you're standing
still.
Good Luck,
David
