Hi all,

I am purchasing a 3 year old gelding.  I will not be present for the vet check, so the vet is going to email me a form for me to fill out, listing everything I want done.

At 3 years old, I don't expect they will find much of anything wrong.  What should I specifically ask for?  I don't think x-rays are necessary due to his young age..?  When I bought Shahtahr at 7 years old, the vet just did a general health/wellness exam, and I think flexion tests, watched his way of going, and that was it.

Is there anything else I should ask for, considering I will eventually want to use this horse in CTR and some endurance?  I guess I could start there and indicate that if anything is found that warrants further tests, to contact me?

Thanks for any pointers.  I am so excited!!

Eyes and teeth. I bought a mare that costs me almost a thousand a year to have her teeth done by a dental specialist every 6 months for the rest of her life. No over-bite and no occlusions. Take it from me.

Personally I wouldn't buy anything for competition use over the age of two without radiographs (feet, pasterns, hocks at the very least).  OCD and some hoof issues (i.e. rotated coffin bone) can be seen already at that age.  Not the place to cut corners, IMHO.

Good luck with the gelding and I hope he is clean as a willing to boot.
