Are there really only 16 members of this organization who were running for director?  That is just pathetic.  Two of the biggest regions only had one candidate each.

I asked today about our region, we only had two people so no election.  I won't complain, thankfull that two people did volunteer.  If you don't volunteer, you can't complain.

Quite frankly, I decided I did not want to try to be on the board, because of all the discord, including major criticism from former directors even aimed at potential candidates!

It's a shame that Roger (SW) and Andrew (W) will each be appointing a
director to fill the vacant, unwanted seats. I thought this a sterling way
to cut down on the size of the BOD which by all legitimate measures has too
many members.

Pathetic.

I was beating the drum about reducing the size of our Board for a long time, and got nowhere.  This shows again how the bloated size of our Board is harming the AERC.  Not only is it inefficient and expensive and prone to cliques, it is undemocratic in that so many of our members don't even get to vote for their Director.  The sitting Directors throw out all the smoke about why they need all those bodies, but anyone who understands Boards of non-profits knows that 26 members is absurdly large.  Even a 15-member Board of nine Regional Directors and six At-Large Directors is larger than most such Boards, nine to twelve members is about the "sweet spot."

Alas, there is just too much apathy to get it fixed.  The sitting Directors will never vote themselves out of a seat, and no one wants to do the work of a petition drive.  If we do get a petition, you'll see a lot of disinformation spread to defeat a reduction.  I wouldn't be surprised to see Endurance News take sides to protect the status quo.
