Hello Teaching Geophysics Interest Group

I wanted to draw you attention to the OpenTopography's Spring 2025 Webinar Series.

Although these webinars are not directly teaching-oriented, it could be a helpful introduction using high resolution topography if you are thinking of teaching with lidar data in general or the related GETSI module in particular - High Resolution Topography with TLS and SfM (structure from motion)

  • March 5 - Introduction to OpenTopography: Overview of OpenTopography, OT's data and processes services, and an overview of OpenTopography's resources for getting started
  • March 12 - Introduction to point clouds: brief introduction to lidar data basics and Structure-from-motion, short demonstration of using Potree to visualize point clouds & point cloud access via OT
  • March 19 - Introduction to Digital Elevation Models: Types of rasters from topography data (DEMs, DTMs, DSMs), interpolation techniques & how to access and process high resolution and global DEMs on OT
  • March 26 - Introduction to topographic differencing: Vertical and 3D differencing, uncertainty in vertical differencing & differencing via OT's portal

All the best
-Beth
