Applications are now open for EarthScope’s 2026 Student Career Internship Program—offering paid, real-world work experience for undergraduate, graduate students, and recent graduates (within 1 year of graduating at time of application).
This 11-week summer internship provides students with experience related to their academic and career goals. Project managers teach interns what it is like to work in a non-profit organization that facilitates geoscience research and education.

📚 Educational Resources & Data Intern
|
Responsible for educational resources development, technical support documentation, and data processing/presentation. Potential topics could include near-surface and other geophysics methods applied to addressing societal challenges such as natural hazards, environment monitoring, infrastructure assessment, and more.

Support EarthScope’s Cloud Research OnRamp initiative by contributing to the development and curation of cloud-based Jupyter Notebook resources used in geophysical research and training. This role offers hands-on experience at the intersection of geoscience, data science, and scientific user experience design.

🖥️ Computing and Data Science Academy Intern
|
Support EarthScope’s technical courses by developing, improving, and consolidating pre-course modules that prepare participants for successful learning experiences. This role is ideal for a student interested in the intersection between instructional design and geophysics content knowledge, identifying and addressing prerequisite skill gaps, and creating reusable educational resources for scientific computing education.

🗣️ Science Communication Intern
|
Assist in creating content for outreach-focused science communication to broad audiences, as well as content to highlight EarthScope’s science-support activities to stakeholder communities. Tasks may include contributing to organizational news stories and science summaries, interviewing other interns, creating and posting content on social media, digital or print graphic design, and creating videos. Hiring up to three interns.

📊 Seismology Skill Building Workshop Intern
|
Support the modernization of EarthScope’s flagship seismology training program, the Seismology Skill Building Workshop (SSBW). The role focuses on instructional design, aligning training with scientific infrastructure, curriculum organization, and assessment and evaluation. This position offers hands-on experience at the intersection of geophysics, scientific computing, and instructional design.
