Hello Teaching Geophysics Interest Group

I wanted to make sure that you are aware of an upcoming opportunity to help shape future science and training support in near-surface geophysics.

We are happy to announce that applications are now open for the 2026 Near-Surface Geophysics Community Input Workshop, held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on August 25 & 26.

The NGS workshop is sponsored by the NSF National Geophysical Facility (NSF NGF, operated by EarthScope) and planned jointly by multiple organizations involved in near-surface geophysics (NSF NGF, CTEMPs, OpenTopography, NHERI, CUAHSI, and AGU Near-surface Geophysics Section). The input workshop will build on previous efforts to unify the community and determine priorities.

What to Know

  • Workshop attendance will be determined by application. Attendees must be US citizens, US residents, or at a US-based institution. The target audience is college/university faculty and other professionals involved in Earth and environmental science and engineering. Late-stage PhD students will also be considered.

  • All accepted attendees are eligible for travel support in the form of hotel accommodations and a plane flight.

  • Applications due by June 22.

Visit the workshop website for more details & to fill out an application!
