Dear colleagues,
Scripps Institution of Oceanography is advertising for an assistant professor in Paleomagnetism or Marine geophysics as described below. Please disseminate this information widely to any potential applicants and encourage them to apply. We are looking for a broad pool with interests in any of the areas listed.
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography at UC San Diego invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. We seek to attract and retain outstanding, diverse faculty members who integrate observations and methodologies from paleomagnetism/marine geophysics to address research questions in the Earth and planetary sciences. We have a particular interest in strengthening our current expertise in using observations and quantitative analyses to advance the fields of paleomagnetism, marine geodesy, or marine electromagnetism. We encourage candidates whose research will build on existing world class laboratory facilities and marine and sea-going strengths at Scripps, advancing a diverse and collaborative research environment.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program. They will be required to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Earth science at UC San Diego and establish inclusive teaching practices. Supervision and mentoring of diverse graduate students and service to the department, university, and broader discipline will be expected in this role.
Scripps is dedicated to advancing belonging, equity, justice, and accessibility for all who are or wish to be members of our community. Successful candidates must demonstrate a commitment to these principles. Information about Scripps' ongoing diversity efforts may be found here: https://scripps.ucsd.edu/diversity. All candidates who meet the position qualifications will be considered, and we welcome candidates who have followed non-traditional career paths, or who may have achieved excellence in careers outside academia.
