Job Title: Manager, NMT Seismic Observatory


Department: New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources


Status: Regular, Full-time


Location: Socorro, NM


Salary: $70,720 – $85,571

New Mexico Tech is hiring a manager for the Seismic Observatory to manage and maintain a network of approximately 25 seismic stations throughout the state of New Mexico, including field equipment, network components, computer processing systems, and permits. Other tasks would include writing funding proposals and participating in research related to seismicity in NM, and collaborating with researchers in NM and other states. The successful applicant would be expected to communicate information about earthquakes in New Mexico to stakeholders and the general public through websites, educational outreach, publication of relevant research, and answering media requests. The person in this position acts as the Bureau of Geology's point of contact and organizational lead by coordinating the Bureau's response to seismic events in the state and would also supervise students and employees to assist with the above tasks.


Required Qualifications: Ph.D. or other doctorate-level equivalent in Seismology. Seismic event detection and location. Seismic equipment and fieldwork practices. Linux terminal and shell scripting.


Desired Qualifications: Programming language such as Python. Seismic acquisition systems including Seiscomp and Earthworm.
