Please permit me to share the following job postings.
Dear Colleagues,
We are excited to share the following exciting opportunities to join the dynamic team at the UWI Seismic Research Centre (SRC). Grateful if you could share with your networks.
1. Vacancy for Research Fellow - Seismologist:
This role offers the chance to work with a multidisciplinary team of seismic analysts, earth scientists, and engineers, contributing to cutting-edge real-time earthquake and volcanic surveillance in the Eastern Caribbean. The
Seismologist will be expected to develop a research program, in collaboration with other staff members, with the overall aim of improving the understanding of tectonic and volcanic processes, as well as the hazards associated with the regional geodynamic processes.
The nature of this research will depend on the individual's research background and experience. He/She will maintain the regional, instrumental, earthquake catalogue ensuring its completeness going forward and backward in time. He/She will provide oversight
to the technical seismology staff as well as coordinate and contribute to their ongoing training and development. He/She would interpret seismic data and report to the SRC Director regularly, particularly with regard to the necessity for and timeliness of
warnings to be provided to SRC contributing territories. He/She would play a lead role in the operations, maintenance and further development of seismological data acquisition and processing tools that underpins SRC’s monitoring and research functions (e.g.,
Seiscomp, Python programming). The individual will work with other regional risk reduction stakeholders to strengthen capacity building for the production and application of earthquake and volcanic hazard/risk assessment tools in a more consistent manner.
He/She will also be expected to assist with the day-to-day operations of the SRC, as the need arises.
Further details can be found at the link:
The application deadline has been extended to: February 16 2025.
2. Vacancy for
Instrumentation Engineer:
This position offers a unique chance to work alongside a talented team of earth scientists, data analysts, electronics technicians, and ICT professionals to advance geophysical monitoring and surveillance in the Eastern Caribbean.
He/She will play a lead role in the operations, maintenance and continuous development of the geophysical monitoring network. This will include design, development, testing, analysis, and modification of electronic hardware and software that will enable continuous
data communications between computer-based instrumentation and data acquisition computers via programmable digital telemetry. He/She will also be expected to work with vendors, manufacturers, contractors, service providers and local personnel in establishing
and maintaining stations. In addition, he/she will participate in the SRC’s scientist-on-duty rotation and assist with the day-to-day operations of the SRC as the need arises.
This role is ideal for a hands-on engineer eager to apply advanced technological solutions to real-world challenges in seismology and geophysics, making a tangible impact in the region.
Further details can be found at the link:
The application deadline is February 23 2025.
With thanks,
Erouscilla
