Application deadline: May 1st, 2025
Program dates: June – August (12 weeks)
Location: Pasadena, CA / Remote‑USA

About the Role

Join Lumetec’s R&D team and work at the cutting edge of fiber‑optic sensing. Interns will collaborate with world‑class experts, on projects spanning data exploration, seismo‑acoustic modeling, and real‑time algorithm development for next‑generation subsea monitoring.

What You’ll Do

  • Own a focused research or product project from design through prototype.

  • Analyze large fiber‑optic and other geospatial datasets.

  • Design and implement advanced modeling approaches (both physics-based and data driven) for interpreting fiber optic sensing and geophysical data.

  • Present weekly updates and a final demo to the technical leadership team.

  • Produce clear, well‑documented code and technical notes for Lumetec’s code stack.

Must‑Have Qualifications

  • Hands‑on experience with fiber‑optic sensing data or large throughput time series data (e.g., DAS  or satellite).

  • Senior‑year standing in Geophysics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, or similar.

  • Proficiency in Python (C/Fortran a plus) for numerical programming and data analysis.

  • Solid grasp of exploratory data analysis and scientific computing workflows.

  • U.S. work authorization.

Nice‑to‑Have

  • Background in geophysics, acoustics, or signal processing.

  • Proficient in seismo-acoustic numerical modeling

  • Experience with cloud or GPU workflows for large‑scale analytics.

Logistics & Compensation

  • 40 hours per week; remote within the USA or on‑site in Pasadena.

  • $5,000 per month plus case‑by‑case relocation stipend for those moving to Pasadena.

  • All project data remains Lumetec property; publication access is negotiated individually.
