Postdoctoral Researcher in Fault Mechanics

• The University of California, Davis, in collaboration with the University of Oregon, seeks a postdoctoral researcher to join an NSF-funded project investigating the roles of cohesion, permeability evolution, and fluid flow in slow slip event (SSE) dynamics. The postdoc will work closely with PIs Amanda Thomas and Brittany Erickson, along with collaborators, to develop and run high-performance numerical simulations of fault slip.

  
  

  The research will involve developing physics-based parameterizations of cohesion and permeability using experimental constraints, implementing and testing these formulations in both simplified models and conducting 2D and 3D simulations of SSEs. These models will be used to investigate the mechanisms driving slow slip dynamics in Cascadia and other subduction zones. This position offers an opportunity to work at the intersection of experimental rock mechanics, earthquake physics, and large-scale computational modeling to address fundamental questions about fault zone processes.

  
  

  Appointment: Full-time, 1-year term with possible renewal for up to three years; salary per UC postdoctoral scale plus benefits.
