Call for Applications for Associate Professor Position Earthquake Research Institute, The University of Tokyo
1. Position title and number:
Associate Professor (one position)

Permanent
In accordance with internal regulations regarding the tenure of faculty members, a five-year term limit is applied to faculty members over 55 years of age at the start of the following academic year. Reappointment is possible only once with the approval of the institute’s faculty council (however, it cannot exceed the retirement date stipulated in The University of Tokyo’s regulations). Observational geo-electromagnetism
The Earthquake Research Institute aims to elucidate subsurface structures and their physical state in seismogenic and volcanic regions based on a variety of observations. In particular, the Institute aims to elucidate the relationship between the behavior of subsurface fluids and seismic and volcanic activity through the integrated analysis of resistivity structures and information obtained from seismology, geodesy, and volcanology. We seek an Associate Professor who will promote the development of advanced methodologies for observation and data analysis on high-precision electrical resistivity structures of seismogenic regions, while leading multidisciplinary research collaborations with other universities and research institutes. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the education and mentorship of early-career researchers through active engagement with research and graduate-level education.
8. Working hours:
Deemed as working 7 hours and 45 minutes per day under the discretionary labor system for professional work
9. Holidays:
Saturdays, Sundays, public holidays, year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)
10. Leave:
Annual paid leaves, special leaves, etc.
11. Salary and benefits
Determined based on academic background, work experience, etc., with a salary increase system.
Reference: Monthly salary of approximately 470,000 yen for those with a doctoral degree
12. Allowances: Bonuses (twice a year), commuting allowance (up to 55,000 yen per month in principle), and other allowances according to university regulations
13. Insurance:
Enrollment in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Mutual Aid Association, employment insurance, and workers' compensation insurance, as required by law
