Tenure-Track Assistant or Associate Professor in Remote Sensing (University of Florida)
The Department of Agricultural and Biological Engineering (ABE) (https://abe.ufl.edu) in the Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a tenure-track position in Remote Sensing at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor.
The faculty member will develop a nationally recognized research program in remote sensing technologies and techniques to detect, describe, and predict threats affecting our agricultural and natural systems, and evaluate mitigation strategies. The successful candidate will develop theoretical/foundational algorithms in remote sensing and/or sensor development (hardware) utilizing a variety of sensors such as fluorescence, hyperspectral, and multispectral optical sensing, LiDAR, and/or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS). The applications may include, but are not limited to, satellite-based spatiotemporal remote sensing in soil and plant nutrients/organic matter, ecosystem health (such as agriculture, rangelands, and forests), natural hazards, land use/cover changes, and/or water quality for health and societal well-being. For the teaching program, the candidate will develop an undergraduate course in remote sensing techniques or sensor development for wider, non-engineering students, and another graduate-level course derived from the candidate’s research expertise. A successful candidate is expected to embrace all three missions of research, extension, and teaching at UF, as a land-grant university system.
In addition to strong disciplinary training, we seek candidates with interest in integrating knowledge from multiple academic domains, such as environmental science and engineering, hydrology, crop/rangeland systems, forest systems, AI/ML, computer science, and/or electrical engineering. Candidates should possess the interest, skills, and temperament to interact effectively with other researchers across disciplines.
The successful candidate will be closely affiliated with the UF/IFAS Center for Remote Sensing (CRS) (https://abe.ufl.edu/crs), which currently has over 80 Affiliate Faculty from various departments across UF.
This position is available in January 2027 and will be filled as soon thereafter as an acceptable applicant is selected. Compensation is commensurate with the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected applicant. Questions about the position (Requisition # 540144) can be directed to the Search Committee Chair and UF/IFAS CRS Director, Dr. Jasmeet Judge (jas...@ufl.edu).
More information about the position and application process is available at https://explore.jobs.ufl.edu/en-us/job/540144.

Cheers,
Nasser
