We are offering a fully funded PhD position within the ERC UNREST project to study the multi-scale seismic characterization of active rockslides. The project aims to improve our understanding of the dynamics of large-scale, active rockslides. Research will focus on two main objectives: (1) analyze and cluster internal microseismic activity to identify and interpret seismic events linked to rockslide deformation and material damage, (2) develop a novel approach that combines seismic methods with granular flow simulations to characterize the complex dynamics of mass movements.

The successful candidate will join the Géoazur (CNRS) research unit and work in a collaborative, international environment, including partners in Switzerland. The position is supervised by Dr. Małgorzata Chmiel and Dr. Françoise Courboulex, with close collaboration from Dr. Martijn van den Ende, Dr. Fabian Walter, and Dr. Perry Bartelt.

Applicants should hold a Master’s degree in geophysics, physics, applied mathematics, or computer science, and have expertise in a high-level programming language such as MATLAB or Python.

Application deadline: August 25, 2025.
