PhD and/or MSc student opportunities in Subduction Zone Geodynamics at the University of Victoria

We are recruiting PhD and/or MSc students to work on subduction zones! The study can be developed in any of the following research directions, but the exact topic is flexible according to individual interests and strengths:
- Subduction megathrust activities and their tsunami impact
- Deformation and fluid flow processes at subduction zones
- Viscoelastic earthquake-cycle deformation at subduction zones
The students will have opportunities to interact with the diverse UVic Geophysics and Geology faculty and the team of scientists in the nearby Pacific Geoscience Centre, Geological Survey of Canada, and contribute to Canadian national programs regarding natural hazards and public safety. The graduate research is likely to involve both frontier observations (e.g., marine expeditions, offshore geophysical monitoring, analysis of seafloor and borehole geodetic, hydrologic, and seismic data) and numerical modelling. Collaboration with scientists/engineers at the Ocean Networks Canada and other national/international groups is expected. Positions will be fully funded through a mixture of research and teaching assistantships, graduate awards, and fellowships.
