The Géoazur DAS team is announcing several Postdoctoral Researcher positions opening in the coming months. These opportunities are focused on advancing the application of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in geophysics and ocean science, with a strategic emphasis on preparing for next-generation seafloor infrastructure.

Key Research Areas

We are seeking innovative candidates to contribute to the following high-impact areas:

  • Earthquake and Tsunami Systems: Developing DAS methods for early-warning and rapid detection systems.

  • Oceanography and Hydroacoustics: Investigating low-frequency and hydroacoustic DAS applications for deep-sea monitoring.

  • Photonic Instrumentation Benchmarking: Evaluating and validating the performance of new fiber optic technologies and instrumentation.

This research is directly aligned with the upcoming TAMTAM seafloor cable project in the SW Pacific (implementing DAS and SMART technologies) and the major European initiative, the SENSEI project (https://senseiproject.eu/).

The Géoazur Environment

While prior experience in DAS or acoustic data analysis is preferred, we highly value candidates with innovative ideas and are committed to supporting creative research directions with potential for additional funding.

Géoazur offers a stimulating and collaborative work environment located on the beautiful French Riviera, situated where the Mediterranean Sea meets the Alps. The laboratory comprises a diverse community of approximately 180 researchers, engineers, and students dedicated to pushing the boundaries of geoscience research.

As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will join a focused, cross-disciplinary team of about 20 people committed to advancing DAS technology, including experts in photonics. You will collaborate with experienced scientists and talented young researchers, fostering knowledge sharing and innovation.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Resources

The lab provides comprehensive resources to support cutting-edge research, including:

  • Instrumentation: Access to top-tier fiber optic instruments, including various DAS and other Distributed Fiber Optic Sensing (DFOS) systems.

  • Data Access: Extensive datasets from past experiments and several on-going continuous data acquisitions.

  • Computing: Powerful computing and large-scale storage resources.

  • Experimental Access: Unique opportunities to conduct innovative experiments using our access to both on-land and seafloor cables.

Application Details

Interested candidates should send the following documents:

  1. Curriculum Vitae (CV)

  2. Letter of Motivation

  3. Contact information for at least two (2) referees

Applications should be sent to the following email address: sladen-geoazur.unice.fr and ampuero-geoazur.unice.fr
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled.
