The Department of Earth Sciences and Energy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (FCUL) invites expressions of interest from scientists at all career stages (Assistant, Associate, and Full Professor/Researcher) interested in the career tracks of Professor or Researcher, who are eager to join our department and contribute to its research and teaching missions. We are currently focusing our search on the following main area:
Submarine cables for geophysical and oceanographic sensing
We are looking for candidates with a strong international profile, an excellent research record, and a commitment to high-quality teaching and mentoring, in the scientific field of Geophysics, including solid Earth geophysics and physical oceanography.
Successful candidates are expected to develop and lead internationally recognized research programs, secure competitive research funding, teach solid Earth geophysics or oceanography, and related subjects, at undergraduate and graduate levels, supervise MSc and PhD students, and actively contribute to the academic life of the Department, including anchoring future R&D activity to the scientific strategy of IDL, one of the R&D units associated to the Earth Sciences and Energy Department (more information on the websites below).
Applicants must hold a PhD in Geophysical Sciences, Physics, or a closely related discipline. Experience in handling large data volumes, interdisciplinary research, and a demonstrated interest in addressing broader scientific or societal challenges will be highly valued.

The Department of Earth Sciences and Energy at the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon is a vibrant community of students, teachers, researchers, and technicians who work tirelessly to better understand and characterize the dynamics of Planet Earth, while also addressing challenges related to the Sustainable Development of Human Civilization. This constant effort drives the pursuit of innovative solutions and methodological and technological improvements that consider the emerging scientific challenges and paradigms, namely those related to Climate Change, Oceans, Natural Hazards and Risks, and ongoing Transitions (energy and digital, among others). The Department is currently looking to expand its team on submarine cables for geophysical and oceanographic sensing, with previous and ongoing work funded by national (MODAS,
