Match
The
GeoWorkforce Associate II is responsible for developing and leading efforts to
broadening participation in geosciences. The incumbent will lead elements of
the geo-workforce initiative which facilitates the development of a robust,
well-trained geoscience workforce with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to
tackle emerging scientific and societal issues.
Details of Responsibilities
General Essential Job Duties:
- Takes a
lead role in conceiving, directing, and implementing geophysics workforce
programming and products and programs designed to
o identify
and attract potential geophysicists,
o prepare,
enhance the skills of, and retain geophysicists, and
o increase
the geophysics and geoscience workforce
- Provides
technical guidance to other GeoWorkforce Associates and communities
- Ensure that
workforce programming supports the needs of all participants
- Develop
and implement recruitment strategies that effectively promote our
workforce development programs and attract qualified candidates to become part of the geophysics and geosciences workforce.
- Establish
and carry out processes and procedures for evaluation of workforce
programming and products.
- Develop
partnerships with external organizations and collaborate with them to
advance geoscience and geophysics workforce priorities
- Take a
lead role in developing the strategic direction of workforce programming
and product development.
- Manage
projects including project partners, external consultants, budget
management and reporting requirements.
- Oversee
the work of external contractors (e.g. evaluators, graduate teaching
assistants, etc.).
- Takes a
lead role preparing reports and publications to document projects and
program and their impacts
- Support
students, lead workforce programming, and present work results at
conferences.
- Develop
strategies to support internship alumni via an active and vibrant alumni
network.
- Maintain
online presence for workforce activities within the organization.
- Other
duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation of the
business.
Specialized Essential Duties:
- Execute
programming for early career geoscientists/geophysicists in collaboration
with partner organizations.
- Partner
with the communications team to regularly communicate initiatives, events
and progress.
Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:
- This
position does not have supervisory responsibility.
- Interacts
effectively and efficiently with staff, community and partnering
organizations.
- Provides
managerial direction to interns and volunteers.
- Oversee
vendor contracts and manage external facilitators.
- Foster a
professional culture through the use of strong interpersonal skills, and
verbal and written communications.
- Communicate
clearly and effectively with other team members to ensure tasks are
completed on time and with best practices.
- Takes a
leadership role in promoting and fostering a respectful environment for
program participants.
Qualifications
Salary Range $87,500 - $95,000
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
- Master’s
degree (MS), PhD or equivalent in workforce development, education,
psychology, geosciences, or related field or equivalent experience.
- At least
six (6) years’ experience with formal training or work experience in
workforce development or education.
Preferred Skills:
- Bilingual;
Spanish highly desired.
- Participation
in science internship as a student.
- Life
experience that assists in relating to program participants.
Assignment-specific Position Summary
Positions within the Engagement Department will include
job-specific addenda that outline and clarify any additional responsibilities
that are pertinent to the role. This is in addition to the general Position
Description requirements associated with the job title.
Assignment-specific Essential Duties:
- Lead the
Geo-Launchpad and RESESS internship programs
- Contribute
to the Field School 1 program
- Contribute
to other workforce programming as needed.
- Other
duties may be assigned as necessary for the successful operation of the
business.

- Knowledge
of Google suite of tools
- Experience
running internships or similar programs that allow learners to develop
applied skills.
- Ability to

with project management, overseeing contractors, and planning and managing
budgets.

with WordPress or similar content management system.
- Knowledge

- Ability to
organize and prioritize work schedules for self and interns.
- Ability to
effectively orally communicate technical topics to non-technical
audiences.
- Ability to
communicate effectively in writing, including letters, reports and
summaries.

compute, analyze and interpret numerical data.
- Ability to
make decisions which have moderate impact on the job function and the
organization.
Other Requirements:
- Appropriate
availability consistent with EarthScope established practices and norms;
hours may exceed 40 hours per week, particularly when traveling.
