Seismic field job opportunities with USGS Geologic Hazards Science Center

The USGS Geologic Hazards Science Center has vacancies open in either the Physical Science Technician or the Electronics Technician series at the GS-9/10/11 levels. There are duty station options either in Albuquerque, NM or Memphis, TN. Work will primarily support domestic seismic network operations and will require travel for fieldwork. Applications will be accepted May 20 through June 3.

Specific duties include:

-Responsible for the design, installation, operation, and maintenance of the field equipment and communications infrastructure of the GHSC Advanced National Seismic System (ANSS) networks;

-Installs, configures, diagnoses, and performs basic repairs of electronic seismic station components including seismometers, analog and digital dataloggers, complex power systems, satellite equipment, cellular modems, grounding, GPS systems, IP links, and computer networking equipment;

-Assists in the planning, design, and fabrication of electronic and mechanical systems as part of the installation of new seismic stations, relay stations, and the relocation or upgrade of existing stations;

-Provides subject matter expertise on seismology principles and seismic field instrumentation and telemetry and conducts overall logistical support of personnel and equipment to ensure the success of field operations
