The Marine Polar and Geophysics division at Lamont Doherty Earth Observatory of Columbia University is seeking applicants for a Post-doctoral Research Scientist position in Marine Geophysics. The successful candidate will be engaged in an NSF-USGS collaborative project focused on studying the preconditioning and triggering mechanisms of submarine landslides along continental passive margins (https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=2140398&HistoricalAwards=false). The primary responsibilities of the position include investigating the Neogene history of mass transport deposits offshore North Carolina including the most recent Cape Fear slide complex. This research will use new active-source seismic, bathymetry, subbottom profiler, and piston core data that were collected aboard the R/V MarcusLangseth in the Spring of 2023. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in Geophysics or related field, and have experience in the analysis and interpretation of 2D multichannel seismic data. A background in seismic attributes analysis, modeling, and stratigraphic mapping would be beneficial.

 

Initial appointment will be for one year, and is then renewable for a second year depending on progress and availability of funding.
