Do you have a passion for, and expertise in, earthquake simulators and active tectonics? This
is an invitation to apply for a fixed-term three-year Post Doctoral Fellow position in the
School of Earth and Environment at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. We are
seeking a dynamic researcher to contribute to the modelling of earthquakes and earthquake
sequences using quasi-static and dynamic simulators (e.g., RSQSim, MCQsim and SeisSol).
The researcher will utilise earthquake simulators to study active faulting and risk assessment
for central New Zealand in the transition zone from Pacific plate subduction to Alpine fault
continental collision.
The successful candidate should have: demonstrated research
experience in synthetic earthquake modelling and seismic hazard analysis, programming
expertise (e.g., Python, high-performance computing), experience with active deformation
processes and a demonstrated publication record based on innovative research. We are
considering candidates with a PhD in seismology, geophysics, geology or engineering.
How to apply:
The position will be based at the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand. Your application should include a CV, a cover letter indicating your research experience and suitability for this position, together with the names and contact details of two referees.
There will be opportunities for close collaboration with earthquake researchers Dr.
Matt Gerstenberger (M.Gerst...@gns.cri.nz) and Dr. Duo Li (d....@gns.cri.nz) at GNS Science and internationally.
