Six people stand in a desert field site under a clear blue sky, talking and smiling around a piece of scientific equipment set on the ground. They wear field gear including hats, backpacks, and work clothes. Shrubs and rocky soil surround them, with tools and cables visible in the foreground. Large text at the top reads “Seeking mentors!”

Dear colleagues,

Have you ever wanted the opportunity to mentor a motivated community college or undergraduate student, helping them build momentum toward a geoscience career?

We’re currently recruiting research mentors—especially those with geophysics-related projects—for our summer internship programs: Geo-Launchpad and RESESS. (Mentors must be based at a U.S. institution.)

Why mentor with Geo-Launchpad or RESESS?

  • Interns are fully funded for 11 weeks (including a week-long orientation), so mentors can focus on research guidance and professional growth, rather than logistics.
  • Mentor training and support are provided to help you set expectations, structure a strong experience, and mentor effectively.
  • Interns participate in weekly professional development seminars that introduce career pathways and help them prepare to present their research at fall conferences (typically GSA and AGU).
  • You’ll help develop the next generation of geoscientists by giving students a meaningful, hands-on research experience with a supportive mentor.

Program fit—Choose which matches your lab/group best

Geo-Launchpad (Community College Students)

Designed to introduce community college students to research. Partner/group projects are welcome—interns can thrive in collaborative team environments with shared mentoring.

RESESS (Upper-Level Undergraduates | Geophysics)

Designed for upper-level undergraduates seeking research projects within geophysics. Great for mentors with focused geophysics research questions where an intern can contribute meaningfully over the summer.

Mentor interest deadline

Please submit the mentor application by February 15, 2026.

Thank you for considering mentoring! Your guidance can be the turning point that helps a student see themselves as a scientist and a part of the geoscience community.

Please contact inter...@earthscope.org with any questions.
