Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to submit an abstract to the Joint SSA/ESC Session 26 "Environmental Seismology" at the European Seismological Commission (ESC) General Assembly 2026 in Istanbul, September 6 - 11 2026.
Environmental seismology is rapidly expanding our ability to observe and understand processes across the cryosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and both natural and urban surface environments. Advances in seismic and seismoacoustic monitoring now allow us to study glacier and permafrost dynamics, subglacial processes, ocean and river activity, atmospheric phenomena, ecosystem signals, and long-term environmental change. In urban and critical-zone settings, seismic observations support monitoring of subsurface structures, infrastructure integrity, groundwater systems, geothermal resources, and diverse natural hazards including landslides, debris flows, avalanches, and volcanic activity.
This joint SSA/ESC session welcomes contributions that:
- Apply seismic or seismoacoustic methods to environmental processes, natural hazards, or subsurface dynamics
- Develop or use innovative methodologies such as source modeling, interferometry, ambient noise analysis, or distributed fiber sensing
- Integrate seismic observations with complementary environmental or geophysical data
- Advance interdisciplinary understanding of environmental change and societal resilience
We particularly encourage submissions highlighting methodological innovation, multi-sensor integration, and cross-disciplinary applications.
Abstract deadline: 15 March 2026

We look forward to receiving your contributions and to an engaging session in Istanbul.
With kind regards,
