Funded PhD position focused on Solid-Earth Seismology and Greenland Ice-Sheet Stability
The Department of Geological Sciences at The University of Alabama (UA) seeks a motivated PhD student who is interested in seismology, solid-Earth structure, and ice-sheet stability. The student will be part of a multi-institutional, collaborative NSF-funded project aimed at developing new geophysical models of the tectonic structure beneath Greenland, which will be used to evaluate the critical thresholds for ice-sheet recovery under different climate conditions. Prospective students must have good communication skills as well as a strong quantitative background, preferably with prior seismic research and computer programming experience. Candidates must also be willing and able to participate in several seasons of fieldwork in central-eastern Greenland. The anticipated start date for the position is August 2026.
