Hello all,
We’re excited to announce that registration is now open for the 2025 GEARS Workshop — a hands-on, week-long experience designed to help early-career researchers build confidence and practical skills working with instrumentation in the lab and field.
This year marks five years of GEARS, and we’re pulling out all the stops to make 2025 the best yet!
🛠 GEARS stands for Generalist Electromechanics for Applied Researchers — a workshop covering topics like:
Electronics & troubleshooting
Sensors, solar systems, and transducers
3D printing & mechanical prototyping
Instrument interfaces and data acquisition
Power systems and more
If your students collect data in the lab or the field, this workshop will give them the tools and confidence they need to do it better.
📅 Workshop Dates: August 11–15, 2025
📍 Location: Leeman Geophysical LLC – Gentry, Arkansas, USA
💵 Registration: $750 per participant
🔗 Register: https://forms.gle/1n6Dtky2T6zVgUvH8
⏳ Deadline: Registration closes June 1, but we expect to fill quickly!
We cap attendance at just 16 students to maximize hands-on time and mentorship. Once full, we’ll maintain a small waitlist.
We encourage you to share this with:
Graduate and undergraduate students
Colleagues in Earth science, physics, engineering, and related fields
Department lists and program managers
Advisors: GEARS is an excellent use of student development funds or REU/graduate training budgets. Students leave with tangible skills they immediately apply in research and lab settings.
