We are very excited to announce the launch of a new Gordon Research Conference (GRC) series on Subduction Systems. The GRC is an international scientific conference series, with conferences every two years, focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.

The first Subduction Systems conference, with a theme of “Subduction Zone Multihazards”, will be held July 11 – 16, 2027 at Southern New Hampshire University. We hope that this series serves to galvanize and connect the large subduction science community for decades to come. Follow this space for updates and more information: https://www.grc.org/subduction-systems-conference/2027

Future conferences could have a wide variety of themes within the broader Subduction Systems theme, ranging from energy and resources, to atmosphere-interior interactions, fluid cycles, and many other critical topics mediated by subduction.

Don’t forget to save the date on your calendar!

Kristin Morell and Geoff Abers, co-Chairs for 2027 workshop
