Abstract:

The Global Seismographic Network (GSN) is a globally distributed network of approximately 140 high quality very broadband stations. The goal of this network is to record the entire seismic spectrum, from Earth tides to nearfield high-frequency events in near real time. Data produced from these stations are critical for hazard monitoring, national security, as well as fundamental research. In this talk I will give a brief overview of the history of the network, the instrumentation used, some of the scientific and monitoring achievements. I will also discuss some of the future ways that the GSN could improve our ability for hazard monitoring, research, and outreach.
