Hello,

As the chair of the Environmental Sensing Technical Group (ESTG) powered by OPTICA, I am inviting dedicated volunteer members to apply for the following committee positions for the 2025-2026 term:

-          Webinar Officers: Your role will involve planning and executing quarterly webinars. This includes listing speakers of interest for the community, filling out online event forms for Optica in a timely manner, and chairing the webinar sessions. You will also be responsible for collecting and assessing responses, surveys and feedback received following the webinar.

-          Events Officers: As an event officer, you will be working on proposals and organizing online and in-person events for the technical group which can include but are not limited to panel discussions, poster sessions, workshops, special talks, networking events, rapid-fire presentations, and Optica incubators.

-          Digital Engagement Officers: Your role will consist of managing the group’s social media presence. This will include collaborating with the group to design and schedule social media posts, advertisements, announcements, as well as monitoring and following up responses and requests. You are expected to contribute to the planning and organization of virtual events such as webinars, campfire sessions, panel discussions, and virtual seminars.

Environmental Sensing (ES) group emphasizes sensing for the environment. Environmental sensing involves those tools and processing techniques to characterize the environment including DIAL and LIDAR, hyperspectral monitoring, detection, processing and characterization, surveying applications, atmospheric propagation, pollution monitoring, and remote imaging. Also included in this area is remote sensing for military and commercial applications such as land management, target detection, and disaster monitoring. Remote sensing of the environment includes ground, air, and space-based optics, photonics and instrumentation for Earth observations.

All committee members are expected to participate in two monthly online committee meetings, each lasting approximately ~ 40 minutes.

Our committee is deeply committed to promoting equality of opportunity and values the rich diversity of experiences, and backgrounds within our community. We acknowledge that diversity drives creativity, and foster excellence, and we are dedicated to cultivating a platform where individuals from diverse backgrounds can succeed and make contributions. We strongly encourage applications from candidates belonging to underrepresented groups in STEM fields.

To apply: send your resume/CV and a brief statement of interest (max 500 words) stating:

- what position you are applying for

- why you would like to join our committee

- what you would hope to achieve during your 2025-2026 term

Thank you,
