T009 - How We Observe, Analyze and Model Fault Creep to Better Understand Plate Boundary Deformation and Hazards
Not all fault slip occurs during earthquakes. Faults also slip aseismically, or creep, without strong shaking. Creep is observed throughout the earthquake cycle, during interseismic and postseismic periods, through alignment arrays, offset cultural features, strainmeters, creepmeters, characteristic repeating earthquakes, Global Navigation Satellite System and high-resolution remote sensing methods such as InSAR, UAVSAR, optical image correlation and lidar differencing. We invite geologists, geodesists, seismologists and modelers studying bulk deformation, fault mechanics, earthquake dynamics, and seismic cycling to share their work on creeping faults around the world. We encourage submissions with new creep observations and insights into variable constitutive and locking behavior along fault strike and dip, between faults, and over time, as well as studies of the role of off-fault deformation and/or rheology in creep behavior. We also welcome contributions from hazard modelers and engineers highlighting how creep and creep monitoring are considered in seismic and fault displacement hazard evaluations.

V013 - Interdisciplinary Geophysical Methods for Volcanic Systems: Observations, Imaging, and Modeling for Resource and Hazard Assessment

 

Geophysics is an increasingly powerful tool for understanding deep, near-surface, and surface processes of volcanic and related hydrothermal systems. As population increases, there is an ever-growing demand to use geophysical data to quantify volcanic hazard and locate sources of renewable energy and critical minerals. We welcome contributions that integrate both traditional and novel geophysical tools-including but not limited to remote sensing, InSAR, seismology, distributed acoustic sensing (DAS), magnetotellurics (MT) and other electrical methods-to solve practical questions surrounding active or dormant volcanic and hydrothermal systems.
