Dear all,
We have support for a graduate student to work on the (FEM) modeling
component of a recently NSF-funded project related to the unrest of
Mt. Edgecumbe in SE Alaska.
Details on the project are in the GI news release:
https://www.gi.alaska.edu/news/scientists-aim-map-mount-edgecumbe-volcanos-upper-plumbing
We described the discovery and preliminary models of the deformation
and seismic unrest in a 2022 GRL paper:
https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2022GL099464
The student should have a solid quantitative background and
programming experience, FEM or other modeling exposure would be huge.
Start in January for spring semester 2026 would be ideal, but delay
until Fall 2026 admission is possible.
Interested students should email me a CV, unofficial transcript and a
statement of interest outlining why this project is exciting to them.
Thanks,
ronni
